"Israel Visual" Exhibit Showcases 2D And 3D Art By Israeli Artists Living In South Florida
The Mandel JCC shares a special exhibit to celebrate "IsraelDays: A Festival of Arts & Culture". The public is invited to the Free Opening reception on Tuesday, April 25th of " Israel Visual: Israeli Artists Living in South Florida", curated by Rolando Chang Barrero and Ilene Adams. The Exhibit continues until May 5th. The Festival celebrates Israel's past, present and future through an artistic viewpoint including an international photography exhibit, engaging author discussions, film screenings and an inspiring art exhibit that features the work of local Israeli artists. The Fourth Annual Festival runs through Tuesday, May 16, with events featured at various locations throughout Palm Beach County. Art Synergy, (www.artsynergy.org) in partnership with the Jewish Federation, has curated a special exhibition featuring Israeli artists living in south Florida. The exhibit "Israel Visual, showcases four talented and diverse artists, working in varied media, from fiber art to digitally enhanced paintings. Ilene Gruber Adams and Rolando Chang Barrero were contacted to help put together the exhibit that that will be on display at the Bente & Daniel S. Lyons Art Gallery at the Mandel JCC – Palm Beach Gardens, beginning Monday, April 24, through Friday, May 5.
Guests will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in a culturally enriching exhibition featuring works created by four local Israeli artists. The opening reception is Tuesday, April 25, at 6:00 pm and is open to the public. The artist all have a connection to Israel, and many are grown children of Holocaust survivors. The artists are Leora Stewart Klaymer, Judy "Yudit" Eisingber, Linda Behar in collaboration with Raheleh T. Filsoofi and the late Dina Knapp.

"Virgin Bride" by Leora Stewart Klaymer
Leora, born in Jerusalem, has taught in Philadelphia, New York and right here in South Florida. She is a fiber artist and her work has been shown extensively world-wide." My Fiber constructions are based on my observations of Nature and are a metaphor for the cycles of growth in life and in the natural world – landscapes, seascapes, cell structures, organic forms built with different fibers, along with beads, feathers, coral shards using a variety of textile techniques to create these three dimensional abstracted, structures" Leora explains.

"Popsicle Flowers" by Judy Eisinger
Judy Eisinger, a graphic designer and painter exhibiting colorful paintings created using both tradition painting methods and digital art. Born in Budapest, Hungary, and escaping that communist country in 1956, Judy moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where she began painting at an early age and, at 13, took first place for the design of the City Holiday Card. Judy studied fine art at the Cleveland Institute of Art and the Cooper School of Art, which led to a four-year scholarship to Kent State University. After graduating with honors, Judy began her painting career by showing her colorful paintings at the Shaker Heights Artist's Cooperative Gallery. Her work soon became sought after and now hangs in private collections throughout the United States, Europe and Israel. She and her family moved to Israel where Judy designed greeting cards for LION Printing in Tel Aviv. She has illustrated a children's book, taught graphic design as an Adjunct Professor at Palm Beach Community College and is the owner and creative lead of Yudit Design (yudit.com)

"Peace Labyrinth" by Linda Behar and Raheleh T. Filsoofi
Linda Behar's current work explores a new approach to feminist concepts that are being explored by many artists: the idea of separating personal identity from the body, and digitally objectifying the female figure. Her work combines laser cutting with traditional printmaking techniques, specifically woodblock printing. Her work here, "Peace Labyrinth", endeavors to promote peace and tolerance through the discovery of what we hold in common. The artists, Linda Behar, who is of Jewish heritage and Raheleh T. Filsoofi, who is of Iranian heritage, intend to bring diverse communities together in conversation and to send a message of tolerance and acceptance throughout the world.

Dina Knapp, is known for making wearable art an art form. Her history and memory series compress history and culture through a layering of objects and images incorporating nostalgic postcards, painting, crochet, vintage fabrics, found objects and tourist souvenirs. Born in Cyprus and raised in Israel and New York City by Holocaust survivors, Dina died this past October, at 69, of cancer.

"Morikami Summer" by Jerry Gotkin
The Gotkin Art Studio was opened in Manhattan's Upper West Side in 1963. In 2007, the Smithsonian Institution American Art Museum and Portrait Gallery Libraries in Washington, D.C. established a catalogue: "Marjorie and Jerry Gotkin Collection 1965-2007" that includes reproductions of their works, exhibitions, reviews, contracts and biographies. This talented individual has designed art for Off-Broadway productions, Bank of America, Copeland Davis (jazz pianist) and many more. Most recently, several works from his Morikami series have been installed at the Vitas Community Life Center in Delray Beach.
"Orchids Compilation" by Jerry Gotkin
Jerry slowly migrated to Florida from Brooklyn New York, where he was born in 1936. He received a Master's Degree from Columbia and he also briefly studied at the Brooklyn Museum in the 50's. His work focuses on various uses of oils, pastels, pen, ink, watercolors, acrylics, and fine-art photography. After meeting his wife in 1961, they moved to Cape Cod where they opened their first art studio. By 1963, they moved to the Upper West Side in Manhattan and opened the Gotkin Art Studio. Additionally, his work was featured in the Panoras Gallery and he was commissioned to do a series of paintings of the New York skyline for the Sperry Rang Building. In recent years, he has had his artwork on display at the Hollywood Memorial Hospital, Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Morikami Museum, Golden Anchor Art Gallery, Banker's Trust Corporate branch, and on Atlantic Avenue.

For over 50 years, Joan Brams has been producing art for the Palm Beaches. On a nothing day, when Joan was twenty- five-years-old, she woke up, poured herself a cup of coffee, and decided that this would be the day she started painting. She enrolled herself in the Norton School of Art and began taking lessons with a local artist. Immediately, she felt that she had been creating art her entire life and within a short period of time, people were actually purchasing her works. Brams joined two other artists and they opened a gallery on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach for a short time.

Soon, other galleries in the area began to take notice of her, and she began putting on one woman shows around the county and eventually, the Findlay Gallery in New York. After moving to Dallas for a few years, she studied sculpting. There, she learned how to cast Styrofoam sculptures into bronze and aluminum. Additionally, she attended welding school and loved doing it as an art form. After several shows in Dallas, she returned to the Palm Beaches to learn about ceramics.
Now, as she resides in the Palm Beaches creating her own genre of art, she has delved into creating work in various media forms. She considers her opus to be in multi-layered works in the areas of painting, ceramics, bronze, aluminum and even one-of-a-kind necklaces. Lately, Brams has been working on Chinese rice paper. Her work is on display in many private as well as public collections. Five of her sculptures are also a permanent fixture at the Palm Beach International Airport.

"Quartet" by Judith Rosenberg
Judith shares, "Painting and the creation of art are a great source of physical and intellectual pleasure. Since retiring from Judith Jack, Inc., the jewelry design firm my husband, Jack and I founded, I've had the luxury of time to devote to a life-long love, the creation of art. Portraying women in all their diversity and drama is one of my inspirations. A merger of my original acrylic paintings and my latest interest – photography, is my newest body of work. My published writings on the subjects of historical fashion and jewelry, and the research necessary to be factual, have inspired me to portray women – bold, daring, playful or conservative – who so creatively present themselves to the world. Literature fashion, museums, architecture and nature have been influences as well".
"Manhattan Style" by Judith Rosenberg
Judith's recent interest has led her to incorporate photography into her paintings. "I've recently designed a series of "Women of the Flowers." A sequence of steps is performed to achieve what I hope are distinctive results: I paint in acrylics, photograph the image then using the computer, alter colors, change backgrounds -just keep designing . I work on these paintings until my head and my heart say, "Enough!" They are then printed on an aluminum sheet. This media method offers drama, elegance and quality that sets them apart from any other process – complete, unique and without the need for framing, ready to adorn your home! There are endless uses for the various mediums and tools that are available for artistic expression. I hope that the observer truly enjoys the marrying of media and the many aspects of beauty I have chosen in creating my art".

After graduating from Brooklyn College, Jack worked as a microbiologist and then as a medical supply salesman to doctors and hospitals. He tells us, "My growing interest in antique jewelry led me to become, along with my wife, Judith, co-founder and CEO of Judith Jack, Inc., a jewelry design firm with international sales. Together with the design staff, I took pleasure in putting my own ideas into play. After selling the business and retiring, my artistic side flowered. Charcoals, drawing, painting and sculpting became part of my ever-expressing means of creativity. My awareness of shapes, colors, textures and forms in their splendor impelled me to continue to investigate a variety of methods and materials".

You can hear the excitement in Jack's voice as he shares, "Then I discovered photography! I'd found my true love! Looking through a lens helps me see and appreciate the world around me in a new and exciting manner and shuts out everything except what I see in the lens. It's the perfect medium for me. It permits me to fully and continuously express my artistic vision and share my passion with others. My fundamental belief is that everything in our physical surroundings can become the subject of a meaningful photograph. I try to capture and express the essence of what I see through my lens. I relish humanizing inanimate objects and creating scenes from unexpected sources. Every photograph tells a unique story – real or imagined – and, hopefully evokes thought and pleasure in the viewer's mind. The photographs here reflect my ongoing labor and explorations, allowing me to share my artistic sensibilities and pleasure with a wider audience. I truly hope they are enjoyed"!

The Mandel JCC in Palm Beach Gardens is welcoming back Florida native Adrienne Walker. Walker's art speaks for itself. Her use of watercolors, acrylics and stone has given her the ability to create multi-dimensional masterpieces. There will be an Opening Reception on November 1st that is Free and Open to all. Having grown up in New York City, Adrienne relocated to Boynton Beach later in life. She attended Adelphi University where she majored in music. After that, she studied art history and music at Harvard University. Twelve years ago mixed media became the focus of her attention, when Adrienne started painting with Bruce Chandler in Myrtle Beach, SC. During that time she also studied art at Coastal Carolina University, SC. Adrienne sculpted in stone at the Sculpture studio of Frank Varga, in Delray Beach, Fl and Carrara, Italy. For over the last 8 years she has sculpted in the Willy Reed Studio in Boca Raton, FL.

Currently, she is the Vice President of the Palm Beach Watercolor Society (PBWS). She is also a member of The Artists Guild of Boca Raton Museum of Art, Women in The Visual Arts (WITVA), Gold Coast Watercolor Society, NAWA, Florida Watercolor Society, The Catskill Art Society (CAS) and Old Stone House Art Gallery.

In January of 2014, Walker won an award at the Delray Center for the Arts for her mixed media piece entitled "Comets." She also received the Second Place award at the Delray Center for the Arts for her painting "Windy." In addition, she has won First, Second and Third places at the Grahamsville, New York Art Show and Honorable Mention at the Annual Juried Show at the Coral Spring Museum of Art from PBWS for her abstract painting "Fireworks."

Dr. Joan Lipton is an experienced art historian- lecturer and a dedicated scholar with the desire to promote the study of art and culture to her audiences. She has earned a Master's degree in art history from Hunter College, with a specialization in Renaissance, and a PhD in art history from the Graduate Center of the City of New York with a specialization in 19th and 20th century art.

ENCORE ART HISTORY TALKS:
In addition to this new series, for the first time ever, the JCC will be offering patrons the opportunity to spend an entire day with Dr. Lipton on November 10 and 17th from 10:30am-2:30pm. The morning will feature an encore art history talk from her treasury of wonderful lectures including The Lure of Impressionism: Manet or Morisot or and The Lure of Impressionism: Monet, Sisley, Pissaro and Renoir. After carving out some time for lunch (available for an additional fee), you can attend one of the classes from Dr. Lipton's newest series detailed above.
